Human Trafficking 101

Human trafficking is the use of fraud, force, or coercion in order to exploit an individual for profit.  Today, human trafficking claims the freedom of over 2.5 million individuals around the world and represents the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.  Traffickers may exploit individuals for labor or services in any number of fields, including domestic service, farm work, factory work, and sex work.  Economic, ethnic, and gender inequalities cause certain populations, such as African and South Asian women, to be particularly vulnerable to this modern-day slavery. 

At Domestic workers health Center, we consider the blatant injustices of human trafficking to be an extreme representative of the exploitation that countless workers continually experience.  Thus, in order to eradicate human trafficking, the human rights of all workers, in all circumstances must be respected and empowered.
